The Weekly Tea (5/15)

Hello Friends! As I am writing this, the sun is setting and I am sinking into my cozy arm chair that I typically spend hours in each day. Early in the morning, I crawl out of bed and stumble out to this chair. I drink my coffee, I read, and I journal. Later in the morning, once the chaos of the day has begun, I sink back into this chair for feeding time with the baby. And then, at the end of each day, if I’m lucky, I find myself back in this same battered blue arm chair. Hopefully with a book in hand or my laptop, ready to write. It’s faded with character, cozy and perfect. From where I sit, I can see the mountain or I can gaze out at my little garden in progress. This is homebase for me. So from my homebase to wherever homebase is for you, why don’t you poor yourself some tea and let’s chat!

Here’s what I’ve been loving this week…

1. Rhythms of Renewal by Rebekah Lyons. I have known for awhile now that I need to incorporate true rest into my weekly rhythm. But so often, my off days become catch up days. The moments I should be resting turn into mindless social media scrolling. I’m hurrying through my day, marred by stress and anxiety rather than abiding and living with intention. This book felt like a good place to start. The chapters are short and have reflection questions at the end so it’s super applicable. One of the key things this book has inspired for our family is one day a week (that’s Sunday for us) is a true day of rest. There’s only three rules for this day, no shopping, no social media and no work. Sounds simple right? Wrong. We have been at this for three weeks now and every time I have still posted to social media… busted. So this weekend, I’m taking my own, self created parameters a little more seriously and I’m unplugging from my devices completely. I’m hoping to hike some new trails, work in my garden and work on my book. I encourage you to think of your most common distractions and create space for yourself to completely rest from those things. Freedom is on the other side, I promise. I’ll update you guys on how this unplugged time goes.

2. My husband knows that gifts are my love language so he did a fantastic job for mothers day this year. He got me two new shirts from one of my favorite shops, The Fern Folk, and he got me a new area rug from Target!! I have been wanting one for our TV room/Library because I’m giving this room a little face lift. Yall, How cute is this rug? I’m over the moon. I’ve linked it here in case you wanna grab one for your space.

3. Goodwill is open. UM, YAY!! I never thought I would miss goodwill this much until quarantine happened. So of course, I went to my favorite location on opening day. Much to my surprise, I left empty handed. But, I’m so excited that they’re open and I am gonna keep up my treasure hunt for the perfect reclining chair to go in our empty corner of the library. If all my dreams came true, I would find a vintage one made of velvet in a marigold yellow color. You can’t rush vintage though. You must be willing to search. So I’ll keep hunting until I find the perfect chair!

All else is well in the Jackson Tribe. I’m just over here wranglin’ babies, hustlin’ oils and getting down with some yoga. I hope you all have an incredible weekend and don’t forget to carve out some time to rest, to truly rest.
