Okay friends, so apparently we completely skipped spring and went straight from winter to summer in the snap of a finger so here I am, sitting in a pool of sweat, trying to cope with these ninety degree temps we’ve been having. But as you already know if you’ve been a reader around here long I believe when life gives you lemons, you blog about it. So yes it’s been hot AF, but I also got to go on a little shopping spree at Platos Closet to grab some stuff for my summer wardrobe (insert high five emoji). Since I’ve committed to not buy anything new for my wardrobe this spring/summer, I hit up my closest Platos Closet in search of a denim jacket and ended up finding a jacket plus a whole lot more (isn’t that how it always goes?).
Daisy Dress
Everyone needs a great sundress (or ten) and I really don’t have many clothes that fit me since I’ve been having babies for the past 4 years. I love wearing dresses in the summer so this flirty little dress was the perfect addition to my closet. I also plan to transition this piece into fall by wearing it as a tunic with jeans and little booties. The denim jacket was also a Platos Closet score and it fits me perfectly! It’s like it was made just for me. I love it when I find a perfect second hand treasure. Style Tip: to get more wear out of a certain piece, play around with how you wear what you wear. For example, could you layer a pair of pants under a dress to make that dress a year around piece? Or if a dress is too short, could you layer a skirt over it making your dress look like a top? The more you actually wear what’s in your closet, the more sustainable your closet can be.
Navy GAP Dress
Obviously I’m really loving the color navy right now so yes, this is another navy dress that I found! I absolutely love maxi dresses and skirts with high slits and have been on the hunt for one for awhile now. This dress is so comfortable and I’m able to dress it up or down depending on what accessories I pair with it. Style Tip: If you find a color that you absolutely love on yourself, don’t be afraid to repeat that same color again and again in your outfits. Who knows, that one color may even become part of your signature style.
Free People Shorts
Ya’ll. Do you even know how long I’ve wanted a pair of Free People shorts? Basically forever so as you can imagine, I was stoked to find these red Free People shorts at Platos Closet. I also picked up this fun pineapple onesie (Victoria’s Secret brand) from Platos closet that I pair with my new shorts or even my favorite maxi skirts. Style Tip: Not really a style tip but more of a summer tip, Coze Tea has the best bubble tea. This is what will be fueling me pretty much all summer long. It’s fruity, cold, and so refreshing. Love Jones is my favorite blend. You can thank me later.
I have to be honest with you guys, at first I didn’t know how I was going to do with sticking to my rule about only buying second hand but honestly it hasn’t been nearly as difficult as I thought. Yes, I was tempted a few times by these really cute yellow shorts at Target but I stayed strong and only shopped second hand. I’m also considering looking more on places like Poshmark and ThredUP to fill any wardrobe gaps I might find over the summer or as I transition my closet into fall. I also have discovered The Conscious Outfit and definitely want to get some things from them to add some statement pieces to my wardrobe. All together, the sustainable wardrobe has been going well. I’ve been slowly but surely adding in pieces I love and I’ve become much more aware of my buying habits and being more intentional about supporting the smaller guys or individuals with my clothing purchases. I’ll update you guys soon after I check out a couple of local consignment shops and give you my feedback on them. In the meantime, get out there and shop local + sustainable my friends!
